THE FALL SEASON & MUSHROOMS
It’s October and that means the fall season has arrived. It's my favorite time of year. Fall also marks the start of mushroom season. I mention this because I’ve been learning a great deal about the numerous health benefits of mushrooms and I’ll be incorporating them in some of my nutritional protocols going forward.
Mushrooms are considered a “functional food" and they’ve been used for centuries in various medical traditions throughout the world. Mushrooms are currently being studied for their positive effects on cognitive function and our immune system. They really are quite extraordinary and I’m hopeful they will serve as an important tool for improving the health and well being of my clients.
Different From Plants
Did you know that mushrooms don’t convert sunlight into energy like most plants? Mushrooms grow from the vegetative part of a fungus (called mycelium) and are unique in that they draw their energy from organic matter that is either living, actively decomposing, or completely dead. In nature they are most often found on rotting vegetation or dead tree trunks
