A WARM WINTER WELCOME from San Francisco Nutritional Therapy! 
I'd like to take this opportunity to say hello and introduce you to my official newsletter. This first edition is full of helpful tips to keep your holidays healthy & happy!

IT'S HOLIDAY SEASON!
It's the last month of the year, and that means cold weather, shorter days, sometimes extra stress, and almost always holiday gatherings with family, friends and food, food, food.

What's the best way to stay warm in the cold weather? How do we help our bodies fight off a cold or flu bug? Why can indulging in holiday foods make you feel terrible?

STAYING WARM
It's not just about dressing with warm clothing, it's also about keeping your core body temperature up and one of the best ways to do that is to warm from the inside!  Give your metabolism a jump-start by beginning your morning with a cup of hot lemon water mixed with a spoonful of coconut oil. Then, eat a hot breakfast. Healthy fats and proteins really warm you up before heading out in the cold.  Eggs with buttered sautéed greens, or a hot bowl of savory meat soup work beautifully.  Prepare a to-go mug of hot herbal tea to take with you, and don't forget to move your body.  Moving your muscles helps generate body heat.

FEND OFF THE FLU
By December, the cold & flu season is usually well underway, so give your body the best chance to fight infection by boosting your immune system. Avoid sugary foods and drinks, get as much sleep as possible, and take plenty of immune supportive vitamins like C, D, and Cod Liver Oil every day.

GO EASY ON THE HOLIDAY FOODS
It's the time of year for cookies, cakes, candy, and festive meals, but indulging in too many tempting treats can overload your digestive system and wreak havoc on blood sugar, leaving you feeling queasy and lethargic.  I recommend eating a healthy snack like fresh hummus and veggies before going to a party or other holiday gathering so you aren't so tempted to overindulge.  

Finally, don't forget to simply enjoy the special time spent with family and friends however you may celebrate the holidays!
